Derek has more than 15 years of overall engineering experience, with 10 years’ experience leading large capital infrastructure programs. Experience includes delivery of large capital infrastructure investment utilizing design-bid-build and alternate delivery methods. Derek has played key roles leading large multi-disciplinary teams, including roles in delivering water/wastewater, transportation, airport, federal, and large-scale public/private infrastructure development programs.

Derek’s most recent experience with the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities includes 6 years leading the City’s Wastewater Program, including the management of the City’s $750M wastewater renewal initiative. Derek has served a leading role in the development and implementation of the City’s alternative delivery process, established to deliver the reconstruction of a 56 MGD Water Reclamation Facility that is to be completed and operational by 2025. The development of the City’s alternative delivery processes included the evaluation and selection of delivery alternatives, risk identification and evaluation, contract development, contractor selection and contractor onboarding as required to meet the needs of a complex and time-sensitive project delivery schedule.

Derek holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer in California and Utah.
